Wattson Anywhere >>> energyhive

Could this efergy device (sold at the Energyhive site) be clamped to the immersion live wire to indicate diverted power in addition to all other measurements (solar production, importation, exportation)?

    Hi

The question revolves around ... are you measuring proportional power and, if so, how does the proportional device work ?

The above clamp system is designed to measure standard waveform AC mains current at a standard cycle at a standard voltage in order to do nothing more than estimate the power being consumed on the basis that the power factor of all of the combined household demand is close to 1 .... change conditions so that any fixed assumption becomes a variable and accuracy goes out of the window ....

    Thank you.

Now I have a bigger problem.

I'm only getting the single device type shown when I scan for devices. I get a message "Error Invalid metering type". I can't get any further. Please can anyone help?

    Hi ST,

How many clamps do you have?
4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.

I have installed the three clamps.

Are they all connected properly - as in using the 'Y' cable?

Are they just round the live or neutral cable - have you stripped back the cover to reveal brown/blue cables? All 3 clamps have to be either all live or all neutral, can't mix them.

Have you tried turning one the clamps from the Y pair by 180°?

Thank you. This may be the problem. I had to clamp on to the neutral on the mains import since the live was not accessible. Then I clamped onto the live in each case on the solar import. Thus I have mixed lives and neutrals.

I wasn't aware of the consistency requirement.

Right, I have all three clamps connected to neutral and I have worked through the clamp reversal judgement. And then Wattson meter is working. Each time I scan for devices, I get the same single device as indicated in the picture below. Each time I scan for devices, the generation and consumption figures update. But as soon as I click Continue the error message appears.

Do you have the meter side clamp connected to the cable from the import meter and before the consumer unit/fuse box?

The other 2 clamps need to be connected to the feed from the inverter, again before they hit the fuse box.

Otherwise, get on the phone on Monday to energyhive and get them to look at it from their end?

No I have it connected to the neutral immediately as it enters the RCD in the consumer unit. The clamp sits on the RCD. To enter prior to that point would involve drilling a hole in the wall from the meter box outside and requiring a long lead back to the transmitter. Is this problematic?

    Yes.

I have emailed Josh and he has asked for my MAC number. I will await his response.

Everything indicates that the Wattson is working correctly albeit that the Solar Generation figure is about 150 watts to high.

    Regards, Sterling.

It does appear that the rotation of the third probe alters the usage position on the graph (Holmes software). So that at least must be correct. So Wattson seems to be correct. No luck with energyhive.
