You could try a subject access request.

It would have to divulge any information held about you.

Thanks for the reply everyone for the advice. Quick question is there anyway of checking??
As SPM says, the only way to find out is to apply.

However, you may end up getting unsolicited correspondence from Metropolitan Collection Services (HSBC's in-house debt collection agency) if they connect you and the old debt.

It would be statute-barred, but not beyond the realms of possibility they'll have a go to see if you pay out of a sense of shame/obligation/fear.

would you lend to someone if they ripped you off once before?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Humour ? But a justification worded somewhat more reverently would, in my opinion, meet the requirements for the justification of maintained data as long they wish to commercially (and I have read both the guidelines and most of the act regularly).

Yes i accept that is an argument, i'm not convinced though. I think this one would be borderline for a ruling. Like you i was responsible for DPA compliance, but not in regard to financial matters.

My comment about rob was of course criminal acts fall under slightly different governance. I did get that it was a joke....... honest.:rotfl:

I was thinking of apply for a bank account first to see if I get one ? I assume if I'm still on there files they would reject me at that point. Then I wouldn't apply for the mortgage. You have to have a bank account with then for 30 days before you get your mortgage apparently.

And yes I know I was young and stupid but also lost my job, girlfriend and home at the time. Since them I have never missed a payment and always paid my bill on time!

Because HSBC have the best 1st time buyers mortgage around at the moment.
  • IMHO it would be daft to approach them for a mortgage.
