MKRR Rapid Recovery Final Notice letter

It's difficult to judge tactics when you're dealing with idiots.
You could try a phone call, looking for a figure between yours and theirs, with them confirming it back to you in writing.
If you got some sort of complaint running alongside this, it strengthens your hand a bit.0 -
I thought the #1 rule when dealing with debt collectors was to never, ever phone them?0

In my book this is the exception to the rule. Saves months of to-ing and fro-ing. Any bullsh*t, put the phone down, and remember to block your number before calling them.0 -
Bump! (Sorry if bumping threads like this is frowned upon - I figure it makes the most sense to contain the whole story in one thread rather than starting new ones, even if there's a while between stuff happening)
We decided not to phone, and just do it via letters. We were in no particular hurry and my partner wasn't feeling up to speaking to them on the phone. After some to-ing and fro-ing we arrived at a settlement amount (about 40% of the amount they originally claimed, for what it's worth), and got a letter back which seems to be an above-board acceptance letter, with a sensible expiry date. So, some hopefully final questions:
- Does this acceptance letter look suitably binding to make it a sensible idea to pay now? Any weird loopholes or gotchas we might have missed? Don't really trust MK at this point so it seemed to be worth getting it checked.
- Do we just transfer the money with the appropriate reference number and leave it at that? Follow it up with a letter to let them know we've paid? If so, is there any kind of template for that?
- What can we expect in return by way of response? Is there any final housekeeping we need to do with credit reference agencies etc. to double-check that the matter is resolved?
Here's the letter they sent:Thank you for your recent letter to our office regarding the above account.
I am pleased to confirm that we can offer you a final settlement offer for the above account for the amount of £[BLAH] providing payment is received no later than close of business on [a month from the date on the letter]. If payment is not received as agreed the account balance as stated above may be payable in full.
I can confirm on receipt of your payment that we will notify the Credit Reference Agencies that the account has been settled to our satisfaction and they will then update your credit file accordingly. Your credit file would be updated to show as partially satisfied.

Hi
It makes sense to keep everything in one thread. It's annoying to have to jump around to find out what's going on.
That looks OK to me and a good resolution to the problem.
They have now given you a sensible timescale and their letter refers to full settlement. You can just pay it - covering letter seems sensible, and keep copies of everything.
The credit files should then show partial settlement and zero balance, but I wouldn't worry if it takes a month for the update to filter through.0
