Oven pride didn't work
Comments
-
Did our oven doors with Cif and brillo pad (and lots and lots of elbow grease), after a couple of years of neglect, took hours to get the glass clean, so won't leave it so long next time. Mr Muscle is okay, but didn't seem to make a huge difference on the glass.
Just a note on foil on the grill tray - on our old oven we used to do that, but when we bought a new oven 7 years ago it specifically said don't use foil on the grill tray in the safety manual, presumably there is a fire risk from the heat transfer.0 -
Make sure your oven walls aren't self-clean. You're not supposed to put any product on self-clean ovens.0

Obviously the self clean function isnt working for the opNever, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0 -
I find oven pride works great, but I personally leave to soak for 12 hours or so and then scrub it with hot water, i'm pretty sure it says its not suitable for the glass though?0

I assume it's someone elses filth considering the OP has "just moved in" and this is the first time they've attempted cleaning it.
They may not have realised it's a self clean over, which requires it to be switched on to the maximum setting for some hours.0 -
We used oven pride twice, each for overnight so more than twelve hours.
I tracked down the manual and it's not a self cleaning model. It also states we should not use a steam cleaner.0 -
Bicarbonate of soda is all you need. Use a whole pot with 3 tbl spoons of water, and mix to form a paste. Then mash it into the oven surfaces, leave it over night, bit of a scrub the next day, done. You can also spray the bicarb with vinegar, particularly around the grill elements, which will cause it to fizz before removing. For really stubborn burnt on stains, use a scraper. I've tried man-made oven cleaners many times before and always been disappointed, not to mention the terrible lingering chemical smell in food for weeks afterwards..0

As the last poster said, bicarbonate of soda mixed into a paste with a bit of water then some elbow grease works well, is cheap and doesn't have a horrible smell.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
