To buy or not a Russell Hobbs 18617 Easy Store Plug and Wind Steam Iron

Hi All,

I was all set to buy the above after reading a recent Which? review. Then I thought I would look at Amazon reviews only to find a few 1 star reviews out of about 45 in total. Has any bought this model. Have reserved the cheapest on offer at a local retailer until 6/3/2015.

I assume this is the iron you're talking about? It's got 4 and a half / 5 stars from 74 reviews. I had a little look through the lower scoring ones, and it seems a lot of them had problems with the specific ones they were sent having no steam functionality.

Is your local retailer offering it for cheaper than Amazon, and will you be able to return it if you have similar problems? The beauty about buying from Amazon is that they'll normally bend over backwards to make sure you're happy with a product they send you.

In my opinion though, the Amazon reviews are on the whole very positive, and if you've already read a good Which? review on it I'd personally go for it. Every product sold is going to have a few faulty models sent out

Thanks K33N3R. Very sensible advice. My local retailer (aka Argos) is selling it for the same price as Amazon and it would be more convenient than using Amazon. However, you make a good point about their after sales service.

No problem, I'm sure Argos would replace it immediately if you happened to get a faulty model too, so either way you'd be fine. Either way, I hope it works out and you love it if you do get it!

Be aware that some people on Amazon think that if they have had poor experience from a delivery service that the best place to report this is in fact in the reviews of the actual item itself (inset DOH! and head-against-brick-wall smiley here) make sure you get a hands-on feel for it if you can- some larger department stores will let you see the model itself. If you feel it doesn't live up to exactly what it states it does you should be able to take it back.
