Property check came back with a damp problem

Hello,
I am a first time buyer and I had a valuation and property check done last week. It has come back today with
- damp affecting ground floor walls, including entrance lobby, sitting room and the kitchen.
- affected chimney breast(penetrating damp) to the gable wall in a bedroom and front elevation in the same bedroom
- cracked slates/roof
-condensation in the conservatory
Now I have not expected that the property would be in a fantastic condition as it is not a new build, but I am not sure if I have expected such a problem with damp.
Is it as bad as it sounds?
Who should cover the repairs?
What is the next step?
Please, I do need some advice on how to tackle this as I do not want to purchase a house where I would need to spend 1000s on repairs.

You firstly need a full timber and damp report from a qualified and registered specialist. The vendor should pay for this - it is their problem as the owners.
The result of that will help you to decide if you wish to progress ahead (and if the lender will allow you to do so) or to drop the property and find another.I am a Mortgage Broker

Thank you very much for your help.
Right, so I will be asking for a full timber and damp report, I will be contacting the estate agents soon about that.
If quote for the repairs comes back expensive, who covers the cost?0 -
Why should you cover the cost? Its not your property.I am a Mortgage Broker

Thank you.
We have contacted the estate agent but since the valuation itself came back the same as accepted offer it is unlikely that the seller will be willing to cover the costs of repairs.0 -
Then it continues to be the seller's problem - do not make it yours.I am a Mortgage Broker
