I have not been automatically enrolled onto company pension

Hello;

I have been working for 9 months but I have not been automatically enrolled into a pension after 3 months, I am 39 and earn above the minimum amount for this to occur.

I had assumed they had been (I havnt been checking payslips tbh), so I have missed out on 6 months of contributions.

Just wondering if this is quite common, for companies not making sure qualifying employees are enrolled on a pension.

    I wouldn't say it was at all common historically automatically to enrol employees.

    Auto enrolment is being phased in but not all companies have commenced yet. Where it has been implemented, the scheme into which auto-enrolled employees are put, and the level of contributions from both employer and employee, are not necessarily the same as any historical scheme which may still be available.

    You need to go and see your pensions manager and ask what you are eligible for, if anything.

    My old company has started auto enrolment, with a 1% employer and employee contribution rate, the minimum allowed. The old defined contribution scheme is still available to some new employees with up to 10% employer contributions, but they won't auto enrol anybody into that.

    Auto enrolment has started at your company?

    Or is there a scheme which requires a probationary period to be completed before you can join?

    Check with your HR department.
