Previous Addresses for Mortgage Application

Dear Forum

I've made the decision to try and buy a flat this summer. I will be a first time buyer and 29 years old.

Like many of my friends I have maintained my parent's address as my permanent address since I left for Uni until the present day (some 8 years later!). The reason for this is that as a student I moved every year, then I travelled around the world for a year and then since being in London for the last 5 years I have again moved house every year. I was worried about my credit rating being mixed with previous tenants at any of my rented addressed and the sheer list of previous addresses I would need to provide. I do visit my parents often and they still live there and I am registered to vote in their area, but I am now worried that when I come to fill out my mortgage application, how do I note my current and previous addresses?

My bank accounts and credit cards note my parents' address, whilst my pay slip, certain utility bills and a rental agreement show my current address in London. Do lenders understand this situation and as long as I tell them all of the addresses (temporary and my parents' permanent address) will this be ok? I'm not looking to buy until the summer so can change them all to my current London address now if I need to.

Many thanks

Register on the electoral roll as soon as possible. Every year where ever you were living you should have been registering. Even if you maintained postal addresses elsewhere. Without the history it's very difficult to verify any application whether it be financial or some other kind.
  • Many thanks.

I am registered on the electoral roll in my parent's area and have been for 2/3 years now.

When I run a credit report, my past temporary rental addresses do show up as linked addresses so a lender would be able to see these addresses and I'm happy for them to check against them. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same situation where they have maintained their parents address as their permanent address and kept bank accounts/credit cards registered there, rather than changing them each time for their temporary accommodation and if this caused any problems for them with a mortgage application?

As I note above, I won't be applying until the summer so I could change my addresses to where I am temporarily now but would rather not unless I need to.

    Thanks
