LGPS - How unreasonable am I being?

I am overdue my LGPS pension and lump sum - reason I can't find my Birth Certificate.
I have offered alternative ID docs - Passport, Drivers Licence, Bank Statements, Former employers Contract and Photo ID, utility Bills, etc.
Pension Provider will not budge and I am told they will continue to keep my money (Yes forever!) until I pay £10 for a copy Birth Cert.
I don't want to on a point of principle as IMO the range of alternatives to prove my ID / DoB is suffcient.
Should I carry on on roll over?
Is there any legal requirement that trumps their "Its our policy that a B Cert must be seen and we will not process your Pension until then"?
As I said am I being unreasonable?

I also have mislaid my BC and in your case I would simply get a copy as I will also have too....don't stress yourself - rules in place for your protection and against fraud.0

Not unreasonable - I've had many unpleasant dealings with the inflexibls LGPS. It won't get you anywhere though so just stump up the £10 and get yourself a shiny new birth certificate.0 -
Put yourself in their position. Somebody says they don't want to produce a birth certificate "on a point of principle".
I'd be wondering what principle could possibly make it worth saving £10 and delaying payment of many times that amount. Being "flexible" with the rules just makes it easier for people who are up to no good.
Yes, you are being unreasonable."Things are never so bad they can't be made worse" - Humphrey Bogart0 -
Personally, I think what you have offered is reasonable in MOST circumstances.
I also think that if the scheme rules specify a certain document be provided then they are not being unreasonable insisting on it.
Delaying getting your pension and lump sum because you won't pay a tenner to get a certified document they require to release your pension is insane.
How long are you going to do without your pension on a point of principle (and for £10) - no pension for the next 30 years?0 -
Who are you actually inconveniencing for your point of principle and saving £10?
Its not the LGPS.0 -
Well the votes are in. It appears on open vote, I am being unreasonable: 6 votes to Nil.
MSE has spoken and I rarely go against it's advice*.

As a general rule, I try to tell myself that if I get my blood pressure up when dealing with administrators, then the only person who suffers is me
