Sales Receipts on VAT exempt goods?

Hi, I've got a quick question I hope someone can help me with.
I have subscribed to a weekly food delivery service and I am told they are VAT exempt because the goods i am purchasing are not cooked. The company in question is VAT Registered.
However, I am not receiving any sales receipts with any of my deliveries.
Is there a requirement anywhere that states whether the company needs to provide sales receipts even though no VAT is paid?
I am of the opinion that sales receipts should be offered by all companies to the recipient regardless if the recipient takes them or not but my opinion isn't always right lol.
Thanks!!

On a very technical note, raw food is not VAT exmept. it is actually zero rated. That means, VAT is charged, but at 0%, so whilst the end result is VAT is not added to the price, VAT is still being charged.
Exempt is a totally different concept in VAT law altogether and I'm surprised the supplier has confused these two concepts because its a crucial thing to know if a food retailer.
Forget VAT law, it is standard business practice - and a requirement for book keeping and audit purposes - to provide receipts or purchase documents upon request.
Otherwise, how does the business know its made a sale, how does the customer know what its paying for. Sounds like the supplier doesn't understand basic rules of business.
No paperwork normally means the cash is going directly into their back pocket and not through the business and so potentially dodging taxes.Anger ruins joy, it steals the goodness of my mind. Forces me to say terrible things. Overcoming anger brings peace of mind, a mind without regret. If I overcome anger, I will be delightful and loved by everyone.0 -

Have you asked them ?0 -
"Subscribed" sort of suggests you aren't paying in cash on the doorstep. Are you?0

Thanks everyone,
Payment is direct debit on a weekly basis. I have approached the company asking for a Sales receipt but the reply i had back is as follows;
"I have just heard back from our finance team and they have informed me that the Sage Pay receipt is the only receipt that we have available for customers. We would be unable to get any other receipts for orders that have been processed"
This Sage Pay receipt does not state the item purchased or list any VAT (even if at 0%) It basically looks like a screen print from a transaction log on Sage. All it does show is: Amount taken from my bank, billing address and Authorisation details of both my bank and their's.
Are they entitled to just provide this.0 -
