Can I Retract A Resignation Letter To Civil Service Line Manager?

I have recently started work as an Admin Officer in the Civil Service. However, due to problems I have been experiencing in picking up the intensive 8-week training, I made a hasty decision to resign, and so sent a letter of resignation to my line manager today. However, I am now regretting this decision, so I was wondering can I retract my resignation letter?

I believe you can ask if you can retract it. It is up to the employer whether they accept. I am no expert though.

Speak to your Manager first thing....and explain you acted in haste, and get your head screwed back on..!

Next time ask your manager for support with any difficulties you are experiencing before acting rashly!
  • It probably depends on how they liked your performance and if they have already advertised your role. If you're lucky and they are happy with you and you haven't cost them any money in readvertising yet they might just let you stay. Talk to your boss / hr as soon as possible though and see what they say. Maybe if they have advertised it they might let you reapply for your own job, but if they found someone with similar skills etc they might not want to risk you over someone else.

Unlikely to have been advertised the same day as resignation letter delivered.

I would also expect the manager to speak with the OP before passing it on within the Civil Service unless they were really happy to have received it.
  • Are you now through your training? Was your notice retraction accepted? x
