Hoping there's other pc gamers on MSE!

Wondering where everyone gets there pc games, parts and peripherals for the best price!

Personally i'm just wanting a new mechanical keyboard that doesnt cost an arm and a leg! :rotfl:

GOG.com games for me for retro stuff also humble bundles and STEAM too.


New stuff tend not to buy as its too expensive. Mind you I have a family, so gaming isn't my priority anymore!

Personally though I'm not that fussed about mechanical keyboards. I have a Roccat Isku FX gaming keyboard and it is fine for me.

I get most games from Steam on sales and occasionally from Humble Bundles. Bought a couple of games through Origin but they're rarely well-priced, even when they're on sale.

For games, I basically just wait patiently for Steam sales. And then lament over how much I spend in them... I'm assuming you already have Steam? If not, get it, but prepare to never have money again!

If you're looking for a bunch of new games, there honestly isn't anything better for money than the Humble Bundle site. Pay what you want for the games they have in monthly, and weekly promotions, or pay over the average price for even better games. You've just missed the Square Enix bundle but it was incredible. Keep checking back for the monthly ones, I've gotten some of my favourite games from it. But again, prepare to always be out of money, because you'll want it almost every month haha

Finally there's GreenManGaming, but I tend to find them a bit more expensive than Steam most of the time... the do have good sales on every now and again though.

As for parts, I usually check a whole bunch of sites before I commit to buying anything. Sometimes I'll use price comparison sites, or I'll check the actual sellers like Scan and Ebuyer.

I have the Corsair K90 mechanical keyboard right now and it's incredible! I got it when it was still available from Amazon, and basically just waited around until it dropped in price before I bought it. You can use CamelCamelCamel to check what the previous price of something on Amazon was, and sort of guess whether it'll drop in price soon or whether this is the best price you can get something for.

The vast majority of games i buy now come from the Steam sales, or one of the bundle sites, like humble Bundle or BundleStars

As K33N3R says, GMG rarely have the best prices nowadays (and their site has suffered from a few security issues over the years, so don't use your real DoB and don't save your payment information with them), but they do have their "Playfire" service - I've linked there to their up-to-date "Rewards" so you can see that it's quite easy to get 10p/20p/50p just for getting a Steam achievement for certain games at certain times (AFTER linking your GMG Playfire account to your Steam account). The earnings are converted straight into GMG credit, but it's not quite as good as it sounds, as you can't use credit at the same time as a GMG coupon code. Still, it's paid over £20 to me so far (which is 4-5 games, of course ).

I've also been using G2A for a couple of titles recently - that link is this week's special offers. If you register a credit card with them you get 30 days of "G2A Shield" for free, which guarantees your purchase (although Paypal will also do that if you use Paypal instead of a credit card). Recently I've picked up Watch_Dogs (currently £4.50), Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (£6.30) and Rust (£4.80) - some of the cheapest historical prices. They've been tempting me with that £8.99 Shadows of Mordor, but I think I can hold out for a slightly cheaper price! Do make sure to buy games for the right region, though, as G2A also sells Russian games which will not activate on non-Russian Steam accounts.

There's also Amazon.com, which sometimes has great deals on download games. You'll need to use a US address for your account there, and you'll be buying games in US$, but quite often they have good deals (although not so much since their rep Tony left!).

And don't forget services like EA's Origin. In fact, Origin has the original Syndicate for free right now, and has given away free games like Theme Hospital as well as free game time for Titanfall and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. Origin's really come a long way in the past couple of years. Mass Effect 1 is on there right now for £1.69.

Steam sales are the way to go! There is also the Humble Bundle. You pay what you want, and it's all in $US so you save a little more there too. Pay more that $1 and get Steam keys, and normally pay more than the average (and sometimes a set price) to get even more.

In terms of keyboards etc, I really like Razor. I have a Razor Black Widow and a Taipai. There are relatively expensive, but they'll last a long time if you look after them. I consider it an investment.

Agreed 1000% on waiting for Steam sales. They often have mini-sales but you should hold out for the good ones! There are a number of steam price trackers (google around) which will tell you the lowest recorded price. Just wait for that price to come back and then pounce!

I'm increasingly finding Steam sales aren't that great these days, the discounts aren't as good as they used to be and there's a lot more opportunities to get discounted games through the mid-week sales, week sales, weekend sales, bundle sites and key sites.

If there is a game you're fancying that isn't currently reduced it's worth sticking on your wishlist as Steam will automatically mail you if it's ever discounted.

This is probably because of the way they have been pillaged! Soon as there's a steam sale on it's picked bare of the good stuff & left until the next one's on, not really the best of business models. It's kinda a victim of it's own success, but I honestly can't recall the last time I bought something from Steam that wasn't in a sale.
