London and Country...Any experiences??

Hi there! My husband and I applied to the bank for a mortgage and were declined. I have obtained my credit report from experian and was surprised to see im rated 917 out of 1000 and so have got a 'good' rating. My husband hasnt checked his and the bank said we were declined for a default notice my husband received in 2005. This is being paid off slowly through CCCS along with other debts he accrued. We have contacted London and Country (saw them mentioned in one of the mortgage articles on this site) and they are confident they can find us a mortgage i was just wondering if anyone on here had used them and could let me know what they are like for customer service etc?

Thanks in advance
Monica

You will find the service responses mixed.

Those that have posted in the past that they have had a bad experience is not usually that L&C have been bad but that the poster expected more from an cheap internet provider than you are going to get. The face to face local broker tends to do more hand holding and is more involved than L&C. A direct broker is going to have a different type of service to a face to face broker.

So, if you are after just a mortgage placement, then L&C will be fine. If you are after handholding from begining to end the local broker would be better.

I am in the process of re-mortgaging with L&C and incompetent springs to mind im afraid, June 5th i started this and still not got an agreement in principle, the reason they dont ask for a fee is because they would be hard faced to offer this service for anything other than free.
  • I found L&C to be great! Last week I got confirmation of a L&C mortgage supplied by A&L, 2 year tracker at 0.31% below base rate with no exit fees after 2 years.

L&C were very quick producing me with an agreement in principle within 3 days and a full agreement within a week

I'd expect to do that within a couple of hours at the most

My experience was that they were extremely incompetent which meant I lost a very good fixed rate due to poor communication from them.

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.
