Wedding negotiations?

Hi I'm trying to plan a wedding for late 2015 (I don't have a date yet). I went to look at a venue on Saturday which I am quite interested in, with dates left in Sept, Oct, Nov this year. The lady kept mentioning that we could negotiate (I didn't mention anything to her about negotiation) and has emailed me today. The question I have is as the venue still has dates for 2015 I presume that they would be keen to fill them as people are booking for 2016 already. Does anyone have any negotiating tips? When is the best time to get a discount?

I would be tempted to say "this is my budget, what could you do for that?" OR just say - what can you offer me for this many guests?
There is no right time - ultimately you could go for it and get your venue now or wait till nearer the time and risk losing it...

I probably need to negotiate the package price down by 50% but then I don't need 50 guests (only 30 guests) and I don't need/want half the 'extras' included in the package.

I just wanted to check it is ok to negotiate (like I have no shame :rotfl:)
