Can i power a jet wash without using a generator?

Hi all

Sorry if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it thanks.

I need to power a karcher jet wash from a van's battery, cannot use a generator as we will be operating in a residential area so need to keep noise to a minaum

im aware that you can buy a power inverter that can power the jet wash but it has to be 10x the peak power of the jetwash so eg: jetwash = 1300w power inverter has to be 13000 watts to perform well I

Is there an alternative out there that we may have missed

Sorry for the naivety in regards to this all hep would be gratefully received

You will need a near sine wave inverter. The older square wave inverters may not work well. The drain on your battery will be considerable at 1,300 watts, so it is not ideal for high usage and long duration applications. If you keep an engine running, that could be as bad for noise as running a generator.

You can get battery powered jet washers but only suitable for bikes and very light duties really, not proper cleaning. I'd say a suitable inverter would be extremely expensive and knacker the battery Fairly quickly.

Thank you both for your replys

One other way around the problem is that i can buy or make some sort of sound proof box where i can place the generator in it hopefully reducing the amount of noise

will have to look in to this further

    thank you

    thank you

Pressure washers tend to be pretty noisy anyway. Where exactly are you cleaning? There's nothing to stop you doing something noisy in a residential area occasionally. These things have to be done sometimes, things like hammering, breaking up concrete paths etc. I used a pressure washer to blast old paint off our house.

If you're close enough for noise to be a problem, can't you use an extension lead from the mains?

A soundproof box doesn't sound practical as it will need to let air in for combustion and the noise will come out through the vents.

As the poster said above, how often do you need to do this washing? All in the same location? What are you washing?

Hire a diesel generator? Ask neighbours to plug in a long extension lead in return for some beer/wine etc..

Or even easier hire (or buy if needed) a petrol powered pressure washer. No electricity needed. Problem solved. As long as you aren't using it for 12 hours a day every sunday from 7am then people won't mind some noise.

It is possible to buy a generator that is already well silenced. I don't think they're exactly 'cheap' - but that wasn't part of the original brief.
