We want a standby saver system for our tv.video.cable set up and also the pc set up.
I have found this plug thing for £16.60 and would need 2 of those or there is this bye bye standby saver for £30
has anyone used any of these things? i just want to save as much energy and money as possible. And hubby and the little miss divadee are terrible at turning things off properly.
Any help greatly appreciated.

You should work out how much energy it will actually save first, I seem to remember that the cost of one of these devices far outwieghed the savings for a number of years.0

I think many of these devices are expensive for what they are
There is also this one

and this one

Well they certainly won't save money.0

A much better money saver is your index finger - use it to switch the thing OFF at the wall !0

I bought 2 similar devices. http://www.oneclickpower.co.uk/home.htm
that I use for our Audiovisual gear in the livingroom and our PC gear.
My thoughts and comments upon using it.
Pros
six sockets one of which is the master.
It is convenient since power outlet behind TV cabinet and awkward to reach.
TV is master, with Video, surround sound and speakers. Note that I think the products on standby use little power since they are modern.
Cons.
We bought it to power down the sky decoder at night and found the digibox takes a few mins to boot up when powered off and then goes to the Sky customer channel when it does eventually warm up. The kids were frustrated with this. We now just have the Sky decoder plugged in to another socket and rememeber to switch it to standby (40watts approx consumtion to standby 20watts approx) overnight and switch it off when we go on holiday.
PC, set computer to master socket. Monitor, 3x Printers, speakers, mobile charger. in the other sockets.
Works well with regular use. Only problem encountered is that if BIOS on computer is set to lock on errors including no screen detected. There is a few seconds pause between powering on computer and other accessories including screen coming on. I was finding my PC halting until I changed the bios setting to not halt on VGA/EGA.
I have no idea how much energy may have been saved. With a forgetful/busy wife and young children, they are probably a good idea.
It also acts as a surge protector. Some similar products may not.
Hope this helps.Wealthsaving - a way of life?0 -
I note the device itself consumes 0.4 watt - my TV consumes 0.6 watts.
Like you my Sky+ box consumes far more power on standby than the rest of my appliances on standby - and it defeats the object to keep switching it off.
My standby consumption is probably less than £5 a year EVEN IF I left them on standby 24/7(excluding Sky+) So to pay out £65+ to save that sum doesn't seem money saving to me!0 -
I am tempted by the savasocket although its not available yet, but then I may just got for a switchable trail lead (6 socket lead) so I can turn and and off various devices, as I dont need them on every day and I can easily reach the main electric socket that powers the trail lead when we go to bed.0

The Savasocket people have a new gadget out now called the Savasocket Mobile: http://www.thesavasocket.co.uk/savasocket_mobile.html0

It is always highly suspicious when someone joins MSE and their first post is to promote a product.
It is even more suspicious when the product makes such ludicrous claims as this baby!
It costs £14.95 for something that will switch of a mobile phone charger.
Or a extension lead that claims users can:reduce their annual home energy consumption by a minimum of £30.00 and anything up to 10% off your annual electricity bill.

Thats a lot of mobile chargers to recoup your money0
