Bit of a quandry

Hi all - long time no speak.

Myself and my DH went BR back in 2011 and discharged in 2012. We both had IPAs which finished last July, 2014.

We went down the voluntary repossession route with our house and had a charge with Firstplus.

Obvs any PPI repayments went to the Official Receiver and we knew this would happen.

Now, out of the blue, our ex neighbour has passed on to us a letter from Firstplus with a cheque in for a couple of grand. It is addressed to us at our old property..... now, what do I do with it?

Surely, the main amount of PPI would have gone to the OR (I am thinking that would be in the region of £25K) - this letter says this is an overpayment by us!

The cheque is made out to my DH, but before his name on the cheque, the initials 'ISA' are printed, (eg Payable to: ISA J. Bloggs - anybody have any ideas regarding this please??

Many thanks

x

Not sure about the ISA initials part.

If this relates to overpayments of some kind, would they have been made to FP before your BR, during, or for some period after you were discharged?

  • Bizarre, isn't it Fermi?

TBH I can't remember things that far back, in the run up to BR, everything got a bit fuzzy, I know we made an offer to Firstplus as we had a sale on our house, but FP refused and prevented the sale, hence our voluntary repossession.

On the one hand I would hate to think that we have paid FP more than we owed, but on the other hand, I don't like to look a gift horse in the mouth. I will pop it into our savings account and try and forget about it for a while just to make sure it's not going to be 'grabbed back' for any reason.
