Nationwide - Decision in Principle - Declined

Last night I completed a joint decision in principal application on the Nationwide website. At the very end of the application it was declined, which I believe means it passed their initial internal calculations to have even gotten to that screen (based upon starting but not completing a few) but failed the final credit check.

In the Track Application Process page there are 3 entries, one stating the decline and 2 others asking for proof of address and proof of name for my partner. There is then a link to print a cover sheet so these documents can be submitted.

So, my question is have we been declined completely or does it indicate that we should submit the documentation to prove name and address and then it would be reviewed?

It seems like they are expecting this information from us, so if it is an outright decline then why would we bother to send it in?

Unfortunately phone lines are closed today so can't clarify it with them.

    Did you apply after 11PM?

Yes, it must have been after midnight since all 3 items are dated 1st March.

On the broker system, if it's a policy fail you can't alter data.

If it's an affordability or credit score fail you can change the mortgage amount and loan to value to see if you can get it to pass at different levels.

Can't tell you how the direct route works.

Could be as simple as there being no access to the credit reference agency due to the time.

    Can you re-run the DIP?

It doesn't look as if I can change any details or re-submit at this point.

All I can seem to do is print the front cover sheet. And it lists the 2 documents (proof of name and proof of address) as outstanding items.

I guess the only thing for it is a phone call tomorrow. The other half is also a Nationwide customer (and in fact employee) so I'm not sure why they would need this proof, I guess they haven't quite been able to link up the details I provided on the form to her Nationwide account (the application was started from my account).

Was there any resolution to this? Me and my partner are having the exact same problem with Nationwide where it seems that because we submitted our application online on a Sunday evening it has automatically rejected it on their system (confirmed by them this hasn't been processed properly)! Now hitting a bit of wall with getting this resolved...

I had the same thing happen to me, albeit about 18 months ago, I phoned up Nationwide the next day and they re-did the DIP.

I had a similar scenario of DIP from Nationwide getting declined. When I spoke to the mortgage broker, he said he cannot alter the details on the application.

When you say, the reason the application cannot be altered is because of policy fail - what do you exactly mean? What are the next steps in this case?

    Thanks.

The next steps are apply to another lender as this one doesn't want you.

I suspect you have higher unsecured credit balances than Nationwide would feel comfortable accepting.

  • I was declined for a Nationwide mortgage, and I don't have any unsecured debt, or any other debts. I think in my case my income was too low for the amount I needed to borrow over the maximum term they would allow. I tried with a lower amount of 2 times my salary and that was approved, but I went with a different lender who would lend me more in the end.
