Verbal job offer

Hi all,
Recently went for 2 interviews at my gym for a finance related position, had a call from the general manager late in the day yesterday, I don't answer calls at work so he left a voicemail.
I called back around 16:50 and he basically said I want to offer you the job, cancel your direct debit for gym membership (as it's free for employees) and we will talk on Monday about notice periods and set the date for new job to commence.
Should I hand in a resignation at my current job first thing on Monday? (I don't have a contract with them) or call the new job first and sort everything out from that side.
I will most likely give one week notice as my main month end work can be completed in that time allowing for the new person to start fresh.
Any ideas/comments?

Personally I wouldn't be handing in my notice until I had an offer in writing, which I had accepted. I would then discuss starting dates with the new employer and hand in notice accordingly.Sealed pot challenge member #325

Do nothing until you have a written, unconditional offer of employment.I will most likely give one week notice as my main month end work can be completed in that time allowing for the new person to start fresh.

Your notice period will be stipulated in your contract and could typically be 1-3 months.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

Thanks, makes sense to have it set in stone first, will call them early on Monday to sort it out.0

also I wouldn't cancel my dd for the gym membership until the position regarding your membership had been clarified - wouldn't want a black mark on your credit file just in case0

Yeh that's true but as stated above OP I'd wait till it was in writing and then give 1 weeks notice.Undervalued wrote: »OP says they have no written contract in which case they are only obliged to give a week's notice.0
