Debt collectors at my door!!!!

Hi people, I need some advice plz...

I've had the same *debt collector banging at my door for months now, and i've just ignored him, but i'm getting stressed and tired of the harassment but he's now put a WARRANT saying a VAN VISIT BEING ARRANGED this is a step up from the previous threats.

I owe that particular firm a CCJ;
***** Financial £1000

I owe others;
***** £1000
***** £4700
***** £300

So i have about £7k of debt, i've been to Step Change and they have given me great advice and lots of forms to get back on track and start the ball rolling so i can get debt free. My problem is i'm presently claiming sickness benefit (ESA), I have T1 Diabetes, retinopathy (eye) problems and I have some other health issues so my income is only £292.40 per month.

After all expenses I have 'nothing' (£0) spare each month, so if i pay anything back to these creditors i will have to 'rob peter to pay paul' from myself. With this in mind i still want to get them off my back because of the anxiety and stress it is causing me. Step change said i should pay at least £5 per month to each creditor (Total £20) but i still cant afford this. I really only want to give them a minimum, perhaps offer £2.50 per month? I have the N245 and EX160 forms all ready and filled in but...

...my question is... what is the minimum I can get away paying to keep them from banging on my door?

Cheers.

*Edit: It is a 'Baliff' knocking every 2 weeks now.

    The only advice I can think to give is, look at all your expenses and see where you can trim the fat so to speak. I you said you talked to Step Change (which is good start), have you tried speaking to Citizens Advice Bureau (they will normally offer free good advice also).
  • If your situation is not likely to improve Bankrupcty will clear the lot in 12 months and you can get help with the fees.
    As for the notice of van coming to take goods, keep doors and windows locked and do not let them in or listen to any of the bull they spout about locksmiths and police.
    I do Contracts, all day every day.

    If this is a debt collector tell them you will only correspond via letter & if they come to your door again you will report them for harassment.

    debt collectors have no powers at all

    bailiffs have limited legal powers because they are acting under a court order.

    I'm unsure about debt relief what is this?

    Yes i do own the property with my ex-partner, we still live together, it's a joint mortgage. None of the debt i have is guaranteed or connected to the house.
  • Can you sell anything to make the extra £20 per month? Or check the boost your income board, if you're not working currently you should have more time to try some of the methods on there...

    Or else have you thought of selling the house, splitting the money between you and downsizing?
