Many thanks for all the brilliant advice.
I have fired off an email to the DHL pensions team and will let you know how it works out.

Beware of email.
Sometimes they are not answered as reliably as old fashioned snail mail. I'd be inclined to fire off one of these as well?0 -
Let's hope that life will be less of a financial struggle for your father in the future.
Don't forget to check the Pension Credit situation.
The Age Concern booklet is very informative, even if you need to settle down with a wet towel over the head!0 -

Relying on legendary German efficiency?:)The good news is that DHL are owned by Deutsche Post and generally the Germans take a very responsible view of the pensions that they operate and pay. In my experience the Bedford admin people are efficient and helpful.0 -
Hi,
Apologies for the lack of updates but I have finally heard back from DHL and it's not good news
They have no record of Mum's pension so it's back to square one.
I have contacted the Pension Tracing Service so hopefully some good will come of that.
Thanks again all for the advice.0 -
Sorry to hear of the frustrating experience.
Was your mother receiving a state pension before she died?
If so, do you have the DWP statement to hand and does it show a contracted out deduction?
Did your father get a state pension forecast?0 -
I think you can also contact HMRC as to her contribtions- they generally know if you've been paying into a pension.
Having any of her old payslips would help too.
Dont lose heart, we have heard of this type of thing happening before and eventually a pension is found.0 -

Sadly Mum didn't quite make it to state pension age
I still have to look into the forecast, thanks for the reminder.0 -
Check your mothers too. She may have had some Serps or S2P and your father could inherit some of that?0

You might want to ring HMRC and check your late mother's NI record.
Was your mother employed after 2002? If so, it is just possible that she may have had some S2P, even if she was contracted out.
It may be that your father could inherit 50% of that.
Has your father not sought to claim his deferred pension early or did you find that there was a conflict with the Pension Credit position?
Let us know how you get on!0
