whats acceptable for 15yr old boy to wear

Options
We have been invited to hubbies sisters 2nd wedding. We have not seen his sister for years and have only seen her husband to be once. What would be appropriate for our 15 yr old to wear? Should we splash out and buy a suit just for the occasion or would he be ok in a pair of chinos and a shirt and tie?

TIA

Chinos is usually fine unless its a top hat and tails wedding... we've been to lots of wedding where the boys have just worn plain trousers and a nice shirt.

Hair cut, chinos and nice shirt. DOn't bother with a tie, unless he asks, as he's unlikely to wear it properly (or maybe that's just teenagers in school)

Agree with the above. Should be absolutely fine, unless the invitation specifically states otherwise (E.G. "Gentlemen: Morning Dress").

I believe that formal etiquette states that where dress rules are given they must be adhered-to. If not, smart-casual is perfectly acceptable and the clean chinos + nice shirt sounds lovely.

I hope that you and your family have a lovely time at the wedding. :)

RuthnJasper there as been no dress code given, so will go with smart chinos and smart shirt.

    Thank you

Perfect then! Better warn him that there will be a swathe of young ladies hovering around "that gorgeous fit guy in those great clothes"...!

Excellent suggestion on chinos etc. many young ones like to wear converse for weddings but whatever, as above, they must be clean/new. We attend quite a lot of weddings and converse footwear is acceptable.

  • Have you asked the bride and groom?

Everyones idea of smart/casual is very different. For me that means no jeans or converse, to other people I work this is acceptable as long as they are clean and not ripped.

    Thanks for all your replies.

We have now purchased him a smart long sleeved shirt and a smart pair of slim legged trousers from Top Man, just have to sort out him some footwear.
