debt letter advice

So I've recently been through my credit file using experian and noodle. I've paid all the debts off that appear on them.
I have now received a letter from Simpson legal on behalf of SSL capital asking for £646 and if I pay early they will settle it for £129.30. The problem I have is this debt shows no where on any credit file. It also doesn't show on the letter what the debt is actually for.
It also doesn't show opening times to call them and while Simpson legal seems to be a real company the SSL Capital company doesn't come up with anything when I search the net. It's threatening court action etc and ill be calling again tomorrow when there open but I was just wondering if anyone has came across this. Just seems convenient when I pay off all my debts I get this random letter through.

NOOOOOOOO !!!!!!
Don't ring these fools,
Everything in writing only, you don't want them having your phone number, trust me !!!!!
Send them the prove it letter, sounds like a really old debt they know is probably statute barred or unenforceable in some other way, as they only offer substantial discounts if there is some kind of problem.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. That sounds like a good way to go. I'll send them the letter tomorrow. What about email is that just as effective? I would rather that for a quicker response and I can use an old email address that never gets used so they don't spam me?0

You can, but emails tend to be ignored, always best in writing from a paper trail, and legal point of view.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. You could also check your credit file held by Equifax if you’ve only checked Experian and Noddle, just to make sure it’s not on there either.
As Sourcrates said, depending on the debt type it could be statute barred if it is actually your debt but you haven’t paid or acknowledged it in writing for over 6 years. If it’s not on any of the 3 main credit reference files it shouldn’t be affecting your credit rating.
