Is she state pension age?
She needs to call DWP. She can inherit abt 50% of his State second pension amt at death. And depending on her age, she can be bumped up to a full basic state pension on his contributions.
Go to the age concern website, or have her call DWP.
Did he have any private pensions? Workplace pensions?0 -
Your NI contributions don't sit in a pot waiting for you to claim them when you retire. They are effectively part of the tax income for the government at the time. A certain percentage of people are likely to not reach pension age and this is taken into account along the way.
If a widow is left, then if there are gaps in her NI record, she might be able effectively fill these with any years that your Dad worked and she didn't. This will only apply to her own state pension, on whatever date she personally is entitled to claim. If she remarries in the meantime, this entitlement will be lost.
