Mortgage 7 years from discharge

Hi,

In my youth I made a huge mistake with my accounts and was made bankrupt a few years later after I tried hard to pay it all back.

I now saved up 15% for a deposit and have been looking at houses. I am however very down after seeing a mortgage adviser @ Santander. He told me that for the last year or so all the high street banks are unlikely to give me a mortgage even if my credit score is good almost excellent on experian.
I have two credit cards all paid off and a catalogue all paid off and no other debt.

Looking at other banks I do see now that to qualify one of conditions is to never been declared banckrupt.

I was also told that I can see a whole market adviser but the interest rates would be much higher.

That is the best advice in your situation.

However , you could also try Nationwide......they are quite amenable where a Bankruptcy lies in the past.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Got mine through Nationwide, via a broker. Cant see why your interest rate would be higher, but sound advice to employ a broker.

Choose carefully, and their fee is small compared to the work they do.

Put your concerns on the 'Mortgage Board'. Plenty of good advice on there.
