Maternity payments for stay at home mum

Hi all,
Wondering if someone can help - I've tried to find the answer on the dwp website but as usual it's as clear as mud!

I had a child 18 months ago and as I'd already resigned from my job due to relocation, I was entitled to Maternity Allowance instead of SMP.

I choose not to return to work to bring up my son, and am now having our second child. As far as I can see I'm not entitled to any maternity payments with this child, but a friend claims that her friend got some kind of payment in this situation.

Does anyone know?

Many thanks

Maybe your friend should ask her friend how it works.
    I don't know the answer.
  • I'm a SAHM and pregnant with our third. I'm not entitled to any "maternity" payments. If you are on a low income you might be entitled to healthy start vouchers while pregnant, but I don't know what your friend's friend would have got.
