Where can you buy 0.999 pure silver from?

it has to be 0.999

(Don't want it in jewelry format, but as strips/wires or small pieces)

(not from online purchases, but from shops you can walk into)

which reputable places would sell it?

and is it very pricey ?

You can probably get a jeweller to order it in for you.

Some jewellers may sell it, but they may not.

Any silver jewellery we have is .975, not .999 IIRC, so this may be a long shot.

Is it pricey? I would imagine so. I would expect it to consist of the wholesale cost of silver plus a markup for the trader to make a profit plus VAT at 20%. Silver is not VAT exempt (unless you don't actually take delivery of it by storing in a bonded vault) but gold is.

I would also try a local jewellers but as previous poster says it most probably won't be 999 standard.

If you can get to Birmingham then the Jewellery Quarter is your best bet

Going to High Street retailers might not work. Some aren't making the stuff themselves so won't have stock, and even if they did I imagine there'd be a retail margin added.

Someone I know used to buy (for a silversmith) from Johnson Matthey or Blundells in London, but I don't know if JM are still in this field.

Do a search for bullion dealers

If it's fairly small amounts maybe a local silversmith would sell you offcuts

To get the best price you should try a metal trading company like Metalor. You'll probably have to buy quite a lot though, I doubt they will be interested in selling you a few grams.
