Hello
My young nephew is unemployed but he's wants to go in to the building/construction trade. Apparently you have to sit tests to get a CSCS cards.
Being unemployed can the CITB Health Safety and Environment Test and CSCS Card Test be taking fr free?
Is there anything else required to before he starts in this trade?
Thanks

Check with your local college or job centre? Think there are a limited amount of free ones.
Have you checked with CITB?0 -
An idea of what he wants to do within the trade is a start! Bricklayer, scaffolder, plumber, spark, gas engineer, labourer, management... etc etc
How old is he? Still in education?0 -

Think you need to phone your nephew up and go 'Talk to me!' and get some more infoDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

The test is booked via CITB and costs about £18.75. It takes 30-45mins. Make sure he books via CITB as there are some "fake" sites that will charge £60.
He will also need the latest version of CITB Health Safety and Environment Test book to revise for the test. The book is cheapest on Amazon but can be bought a WH Smith and via CITB. Cost about £10 on amazon.
He will need to apply to CITB for his CSCS Labourers card once he has passed the test card cost about £35 and completed a one day HSE course- not sure of the cost of this but about £100.Be Lucky Everyone0 -

He's 26, and been a delivery driver since 18. I think he wants to go down the labourer route, he's good at plastering also.
In that case, send him this link:

His jobcentre should be able to advise him on whether there are any courses available for him to take to get the level 1 course needed to get the CSCS card. They may even fund it for him - it will be best if he speaks with his job centre advisor to see what's in the area.0
