Threatening to cancel sky.....

Options
Sorry if this is the wrong board but I read SOAs and the advice always seems to be if you ring Sky and say you want to cancel they offer you a good deal to stay?

Has anyone rung up Sky and threatened to cancel without them trying to negociate with them? I want to change to the package where you get Sky+, broadband and the phone calls but don't really want to have to pay for installation. So I was thinking that I would say that I am getting a PVR and going to use free sat so am going to cancel, I thought if I started by negociating on getting a free sky+ box but would settle for free installation. BUT I am scared that they will just say, OK we'll disconect you in four weeks time and I will either have to lose sky or look like an idiot and say I have changed my mind.

Any advice on getting one over on them would be greatly received!

TIA

I was going to post something simiilar just noe!

Cant be just me thats sick of the 'pub-bores' moaning on...."ring'em up and say you wanna cancel.....they'll give you allsorts and cut your bill....."

I have heard so many people say this kind of thing that it just cant be true.

Although, a friend has done something along these lines for several months running and got the whole damn lot for pretty much half price!

I got a letter this week saying my bill will be going up as of next month!

At most you'll get 3 months half price. You'll not get a free Sky+ box.

Spoke to them today. nothing offered in a way that I would like............

best they could do is cancel some of my channels, to make it a bit cheaper, or pay off my contract and disconnect all together.

    Pants.

    just my luck.

Did you get put through to the retention team or did you just speak to customer services? The Retention team have many more deals available than the normal customer services have to offer. You should let them knoe you are moving to Virgin and see what they say!

I am actually with Virgin and threatened that I was going to Sky and was giving a excellent deal were I was paying half price for 6 months. Take a look at the Threads in the Telephone/Broadband forum lower down the site ;)

  • I tried this and it didn't work. I was on the full package and I had decided to go down to the basic subscription of £15 anyway so I arranged this on the phone.

The following day we found we were missing some progs too much so I upgraded online to the £21 entertainments pack as a compromise. I was chuffed to bits to discover that by doing this I earned £60 cashback through Quidco!! Nice one:beer:

Not true, I got free sky+ box and installation when i threatened to cancel about a 2 months or so ago. plus they waved the sky+ fee for the 2months that it was still remaining. obviously you need to be out of contract.

You need to speak to cancellations and make out your only cancelling due to not being able to watch the programs you want. they then offer sky+ but with installation fee and box charge.

Make out you would take it up if it was cheaper or free. then they tend to reduce the price and offer free installtion. if you stick to your guns you should be able to get it free or at a greatly reduced price.

your problem is your still in contract. these offers generally only get made to out of contract customers. they already have you tied in so dont need to offer you anything.
