Mackenzie Hall help!

Hi all,
I'm new here and wonder if you could help,
Around three years ago when I was a university student, I applied for £200 overdraft with Barclays.
Before I even finished my course they have closed my account without letting me pay it back.
I called Barclays on the 15th November 2014 to ask where the £200 needs to be paid as I havent received any letter with instructions but the man on the phone said he can't see that I owe them anything on his system so I thought I am safe to leave it a little longer until I can afford paying it in full.
I received a letter from Barclays around a week ago stating that they have sold my debt to Mackenzie Hall and I can contact them only from now on as I failed to contact Barclays regarding the unpaid overdraft and that Mackenzie Hall will be contacting me arount 23rd Feb to discuss!
I have not received anything apart from around 10 calls and automated voicemails a day, I read online that there are ways of avoiding repayment but because I want to be a good citizen and have a clear credit history my question is, can I not pay Mackenzie for at least 2 months before they will visit me at home?
Many thanks

Hi OP,
Don't put the kettle on for them just yet, it's highly unlikely they will be knocking on your door for 200 quid.
It's just one of many idle threats debt collection agencies make in order to frighten you into paying up.
They can't legaaly collect a debt unless they inform you in writing, so unless they write to you, you can ignore them completely.
If you really want to pay it back, simply write to them, don't phone, and make them an offer of repayment you can afford.
If you can settle in full, make them an offer to settle, start at £60 and work upwards if necessary.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I suspect that as this debt has been sold, you no longer have a clear credit history.
You may wish to get current copies of your statutory credit files from the 3 CRAs0 -
Westminister, I just checked my credit file (Check My File company), it only shows 459 score which is really low so I guess I was late ! Will probably take me a while to get it back up0
