L'Oreal DO test on animals - they're just very vague about this.

Its because of people like you this happens.

Do you refuse all medical treatments that were tested on animals before being approved for human use?

Or would you prevent your child getting life saving medicine because of how it was discovered and developed using animal research ?

You can't 'undo' the animal research, however by accepting the medicine you condone it's involvement in the end result, and of course the money paid for the medicine goes towards new research.

If animal testing for medicine was not done, we wouldn't have half the treatments we do and many thousands or even millions of people would have died or been seriously harmed by unknown new drugs.

How would we know if it was safe to give a drug to a pregnant woman? It's not exactly ethical to try it out and see how many babies are damaged, but you can get a pretty good idea by testing in rabbits.

I do not think anyone wants to test on animals, but for drugs at least, there is simply no ethical alternative. Animal testing is very expensive - if there was another way, drugs companies would be falling over themselves to do it. Computer modelling is getting better, but where do you think the data comes from?

It is an issue for me because I can't see the need to test cosmetics on animals. I can't abide cruelty. Laws can be changed, you know, it just needs people to want to change them.....

And if people don't want them changed then what? Will you continue to go around loftlily complaining that "Its because of people like you this happens" as if said 'people' were somehow morally inferior to you, just because they hold a contrary opinion?

Law requiring animal testing weren't created just for fun; the only reason to change them would be if the science has progressed to the point that the relevant information can be reliably gathered by other means. Maybe this is now the case for cosmetics, but certainly not for drugs.

It has been scientifically proven that trees communicate. If one tree is attacked by an organism other trees in the area manufacture chemical defences to protect themselves. This begs the question should we be chopping 100 year old trees down for furniture? Is this really any way to treat our elders?

I did not say this. I gave MY opinion, I didn't comment on anyone else's.
