Old Egg Card Debt - Written off?

Hi,
I have an old Egg card balance that I defaulted on back in 2011 with a balance of £15149...:(
This is only one of a few large debts that I defaulted on at the same time (just went under after a redundancy and years of trying to get rid of them on my own..).
Although I am still receiving letters and calls from the other creditors , I have not heard anything regarding the Egg card debt since November 2012 when I received a letter informing me that the debt was being passed on to a company called Robinson Way Ltd.
I do know that Egg was taken over by Barclaycard at a similar time and was wondering if it could have been written off at that point?
Is that possible?

One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.

If it helps at all my egg card debt that was transferred over to Barclycard was eventually sold to a company called Marlin Financial, although it only came to light this is where it had gone when I was in correspondence with Marlin about another account with them and their systems linked the two together. If I hadn’t have already been talking to them I’m not sure I would have heard anything.
Its best to check your credit file (for free via noddle (Call Credit)) to see if anything is listed

Hi Lilyfairy
I can pretty much guarantee you that the Egg debt won't have been written off, at least not from your point of view. Robinson Way may not have contacted you since acquiring the debt, but they may themselves have passed it on to yet another debt collector and so on.
There is a standard time limit of six years for court action to be taken on such a debt - this normally runs from when you last paid anything or acknowledged the debt in writing. So, still another couple of years at least before that becomes relevant, it seems.
Exactly why these debt collectors aren't making any efforts to contact you is difficult to explain with any certainty. Are you taking any steps to deal with the other debts you mention, or are you just sitting tight at present?

Unfortunately no, I have not taken any steps towards addressing this or any of the other debts since I defaulted on them in 2011. I made a lot of enquiries (CAB, CCCS, Payplan etc) over that year but I found it so difficult to make a solid decision that I have just been burying my head in the sand ever since. I get constant letters and phone calls from different agencies that have now taken over my debts (apart from the largest Egg debt that I mentioned) but I just ignore them as I'm at such a loss as to what to do.
My income is very low (between 300 - 400 pm), I now have a young daughter and I cannot possibly afford any real contribution to this mountain of debt. I'm now at a point (and have been all along really) where I cannot continue with this always in the back of my mind. I feel constantly guilty and much less of a person as a result. One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries.0 -

Hi,
Ignoring this will not make it go away, you could end up in court with multiple claims against you.
I would suggest you start been proactive, and the first step, if you can't afford to pay anything towards these debts, is to write to each creditor and tell them so.
There is a template letter on the National debtline website for this purpose.
Creditors now have to treat customers who can't pay, more fairly, but they won't know your situation unless you tell them.
They can't take what you haven't got, so may either, put you to the bottom of the pile, and stop contacting you, or even write off the debt if there is no prospect of payment, but you do need to tell them your situation.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
