Mortgage charges

Hi there,
I recently and successfully claimed back some bank charges (cheers Martin) but was wondering what the position is on Mortgage charges for missed/late payments etc..?
I have a shady credit history and my current mortgage interest rate is around 10% with GE Money.
I took out a secured loan several years ago to purchase a new car. and I have also renewed my loan twice with the company to free up some more money for my forthcoming wedding (costs are spiralling!!). I understood from the loan company my mortgage arrears of £1200 had to be cleared, which I was more than happy for as it still left me with money I needed.
GE Money then decided that along with my arrears they want all my charges cleared upfront. (previously they said these charges would be added to my mortgage at the end of the loan term) this has left me with a worthless loan as the charges were several £1000.
Where do I stand with this? Can I reclaim my charges?
I know it's a long post but can anyone advise me on this, as GE Money have really p***ed me off and i can't wait to change mortgage company.
