  • I have also tried to decrease my weight through eating less, but it provided no any benefit to me because I used to eat some healthy food stuffs. I now started avoiding fried foods and junk foods. I also controlled over eating meat and eggs. I now drink a glass of skimmed milk and some breads in my diet. I also started running for at least 30 minutes each day specially in the morning. I want to lose 10 pounds of my body weight. My friends suggested me running to lose weight. I found it is good exercise for heart also. I feel myself quite light after running. I will continue this practice for until i could get good outcome regarding my body weight. My colleagues have also suggested me to drink more water and seasonal fruit juice. I think I would useful for me.

I have joined DietBet. I have to lose 4% of my total weight in 4 weeks otherwise I lose £20. If I succeed I stand a chance of winning money.

Is there a UK version of this? I have had a quick look at the US version and it looks quite appealing. I had a bet to win before xmas and lost a stone as I like to win but have struggled since then with losing anything. I'm failing at WW just now :-(

I will give that a go. Need some motivation. Even looked at betting on myself in the bookies a while ago but not really a goer with most bookies.

I know exactly what you mean calley. Most days its a struggle not to give up and binge on whatever I can find, I've managed to cut it down a bit but my motivation isnt what it once was so I do have a few blips.

Well done for being proactive and giving your cards to a friend to keep for you. I have thought of this myself - in fact for a while I stopped taking my purse to work so that I didnt have any money to stop at a shop on the way home afterwards. I think I'll start doing this again.

Oh, I hope you find some work soon.

Firstly well done :) I have used MyFitnessPal for a long time. Surely putting everything you eat on to an app/website is a bit of work but it helped me to see how unnecesarily I have eaten. Also to see I was under my daily calorie target.

5-6 years ago I have put a lot of weight and decided to loose some of it after a while. I was size 14 and now I'm a size 10. I was 8 for a while but couldn't keep up but I'm happy.

First thing I did was to cut sugar - I lost 4 KGs within a month after just stopping eating sugar.

It was a big motivation. Then I continued, I have introduced breakfast into my daily routine (I rarely had breakfast before hand). It was either eggs or porridge with yogurt. Luckily I don't like my breakfast sweet.

I stopped putting sugar into my tea/coffee.

My main motivator was to get results and compliments I believe.

Do you lose motivation because you don't see the results very quickly?

Perhaps targets are not realistic - I went to a nutritionist to help me with my weight loss and it was the best investment I have made over myself. If you can afford it, why not give it a go?

Not only she did help me to lose weight but also did teach me to eat properly, reading labels, finding out what is good for me or not. For instance, many people will snack on fruit and apples but I won't as they make me more hungry. Fruits also can be bad as most of them are really sugary.

I have used a Low-GI diet - if you google, you will get a lot of information on it. Trick is though not every diet is suitable for everyone.

    .

Thank you for your post, as well as impulse buying/ snacking, I often lose motivation after seeing friends who seem to have lost weight so quickly and what *seems* to be so easily (I know its not easy for them either), whereas I seem to shed the same 10lbs and then gain them again.

I'm lucky in that I have access to a nutritionist every couple of months through work. She is in next month so I'll make an appointment to go and see her. I think I've lost my dietary sense of direction and need a sit down with her.

Thank you, I joined weight watchers with no success last year. It could be that their model didnt work and I needed something else. I'll have a look at the slimming world website.
  • I felt the same way like you before. I realized the people around you affect your lifestyle too. So now, I mostly go out with people that have similar goals with me. And yes, keeping busy helps a lot.

Thank you to everyone who has given me advice. I sat down last week had a good think about how I've been going about trying to lose weight and wrote down exactly where I felt I've been going wrong. I've also written down reasons why I want to lose weight, what I CAN do to lose it (rather than what I have to do) and what my short term goals are. I've got these in a little book that fits in my bag so I can carry it around with me and have a look when my motivation gets low.

I've also decided to stop taking money with me to work for the time being so that I can get out of the habit of just dropping into the shops on the way home after work and buying rubbish. I'm also allowing myself a treat on Saturdays. Hopefully I'll see some improvement in my will power!
