Hello,
I am new to this forum and seeking some advice and help, I know numerous threads pop up each day which are very similar however was hoping for some help for my situation.
I have been looking to get into a better state with my credit rating, pay off debts I have had for years which i have always avoided. So recently speaking to my partner about debts, I'm 23 and the thought of not being able to get a mortgage/car ect due to being silly over the past few years and when i was younger.
My total debt is just under £1800, i signed up for step change which is providing helpful information.
I decided to go through all my debts to companies on noddle which provided me my credit file.

I contacted freemans first about my debt with them and they told me it had been written off in 2013, what does this mean exactly? Will this always remain as a default on my records, or is there a way to remove them?
Used the part on stepchange that calculates living costs ect and states i can pay 80 pound per month until my debts are paid, however after contacting freemans (first company i have contacted) told me the debt has been written off.
Think I mainly need advice on where to start, as I have read so much online its sent my mind into overload.

Sometimes a creditor will write a debt off if they dont believe there is a realistic chance of ever getting the money back, this means the debt no longer exists, and you dont have to pay it, the default will stay on your file for a period of 6 years from the date it was first registered, then it will disappear as though it were never there.
Are any of these companies writing to you asking for payment ?
Has there been a continuous period of 6 years since you made payment to any of them ?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
