I live in a Northern Ireland and lowell is an English registered company. does this matter? No.
I don't feel like I should be paying off this debt when Vodafone didn't contact me regarding selling it, and I had no idea it existed. Did you provide them with a forwarding address when you moved to Asia?"Facism arrives as your friend. Hello
I just received a letter from Lowell saying I owe them 2300 in debt from a Vodafone account. I had this account when I was a student but wrote to Vodafone to cancel it as I moved away after university to Asia, and agreed a payment plan with them regarding fees etc. At that time in 2009 it was agreed that I would pay off so much a month. I think I defaulted payment a month which lead to more charges plus the call rate to the customer service etc I was about £500 in debt with them. I couldn't pay it off so I asked them to hold the account. But this Vodafone bill I had no idea of and they happened to find it when I called to complete the other debt.
I don't feel like I should be paying off this debt when Vodafone didn't contact me regarding selling it, and I had no idea it existed.
can anyone give me advice on what I should do?
Trying to get my life together to move onto the property ladder some day.
hopefully someone can help!
Your post makes no sense. You clearly did know about the bill, because you contacted them when you couldn't pay. You may have asked them to hold the account (I assume you mean freeze interest and charges, but they are under no obligation to do so. Did the write to confirm they would? You also said you cancelled with Vodafone, then clearly used the phone as you said you got charges for calling the call centre.
Why would it make any difference whether they told you the debt had been passed on to debt collectors? What is in the terms and conditions you agreed to?
You could ask them for a breakdown of charges to see how they have arrived at the position you are now in.
Why not make an arrangement to pay anyway? You admit you owed them money in the first place.LBM July 2006. Debt free 01 Sept 12 .. :T

Thanks! I just don't really see how 500 can turn into 2300 plus without me knowing. I mean, I wouldn't have wanted it to get that much to a cell company! there's no issue about me paying if I need to, I suppose I would like to know what I'm paying for? just thought I would see what I could do before I hand over 2k+ to a debt I wasn't and I have no idea if I did, as well it was a long time ago. If that's the case I will obviously pay. I just know from working for a cell company accounts are usually frozen after a certain amount and everything is done to get in touch with the person in writing.
I am not saying I don't own the debt but what could possible have taken it to more than 500+. as you can see I got help from others on the thread above. super helpful guys. and thanks for all the advice!0
