Tinned Cherries

Options
Hi all,

Opened a tin of cherries last week for pancake day but only used some... Transferred the rest with the syrup into a container and put in the fridge.

Wanted to use them tonight for baking some brownies but just thought they might not be safe now after almost a week... Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Kevin

As long as you did not contaminate them with a dirty spoon they will be fine!( I would have eaten the lot by now as I am not able to resist cherries!)

Depends what you mean by dirty! The spoon was clean out of the drawer but obviously not sterilised...
  • I'd eat them, especially after they've been kept in a container in the fridge...
  • you could do as I used to for my late OH He loved tinned cherries instead of xmas pud and I'd make Kirschwalder basically soak cherries in brandy overnight then dish up with a large dollop of ice cream and whipped cream on top with nuts sprinkled over the cream. We used to have it in Tennerife years ago as our surname is Walder and my OH loved the idea of a pud named after us :):):) I think it means cherry wood. But its very yummy and a great way to enjoy a pudding and feel merry at the same time .Don't eat it and drive afterwards though :):):)

I have had opened jars of cherries (Lidl) in the fridge for more than a week and they have been fine.

Has anyone dehydrated tinned or jars of cherries? I guess they would take a while due to the moisture content.

    Thanks.

I don't need recipe suggestions as I'm making chocolate brownies with them, but I'll save them for later.

Fine, as they haven't been stored in the opened can.

Mmmmm! They look nice. I just had a look at the site on the pic at the ingredients, I've never heard of cherry flavoured cocoa powder.

    Thank you!

The cherry cocoa powder is made by a company called Sugar and Crumbs. You can buy online :)
