I have just started a new job and I am in a probation period as a result.
I am not registered yet into any pension as a results. I will be when I have passed the probatory period.
Is it common practice? Is it legal?

Probation period doesn't matter, it is the automatic enrolment rules which the employer has to abide by.
The employer may not yet be covered by the rules (if it is a small employer) or it may choose to postpone enrolment for new staff. See links for more detail on each of these things.
Use of postponement is common practice, particularly for staff groups who may not remain with the employer beyond 3 months.0 -

yes and yes as long as the postponement period is for a maximum of three months. Auto enrolment and probation periods are not directly linked.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). in my case the probation period is 6 months.
Is it legal in this case?0 -
A 6 month probation period is legal.
How long is the postponement period on the pension?
Is your employer already at or past its staging date or has it yet to reach that point? (the auto enrolment rules only apply from when they get their staging date)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
