HSBC default

I'm trying to help my friend sort out her credit and hopefully improve it. She has a HSBC default of 340 and she has informed me that 300 of this has been made up of charges and default fees, She is on benefits and is a vulnerable person, these charges put her into more and more financial difficulty and caused her to default on her mobile contract as she did not have the means to pay. Is there any way she can claim back the 300 towards bank charges so she can finally settle this debt?
Any advice is appreciated

Yes, if she is/was suffering financial difficulty, she should write to the bank explaining her financial position and ask for a refund.
Most banks will refund a charge, or batch of charges, at least once a year, if you ask anyway.
But if she is struggling the bank has a duty of care, so get her to write, be honest about her situation, and she should get a refund.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. I got five times more than your friend owes written off by the HSBC by writing to them.
I have mental health issues and I care for someone who also has mental health problems. I wrote a letter describing exactly what happened and how what they did affected me and they referred me to a specialist team.
then sent me a form to fill out, the form is a breakdown of income and outgoings that you send back to them.
I'm not saying it's as easy as this, my case might have been exceptional, I don't know. But if your friend is as you say vulnerable, the bank can't act on that if you don't tell them.
I wrote to;

Not sure if that was right when I did it, but the outcome was favourable to say the least.
They're greedy borderline criminals, but absolutely do not rule out talking to them, it worked for me.

Well done, they won't know about her situation until she tells them, good luck with it !!!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
