I've tried Tesco, Sainsburys & Ocado, and my favourite by far has been Ocado. When you order, the website will tell you what is out of stock at the time which makes it easier on substitutions, although this could of course change I suppose if you order a week or so in advance. I like the way they email you the receipt the day your delivery is coming, and the receipt is laid out by best before dates on the products, which makes it easy for you to plan what to eat when! When I've had issues with things, such as a bag of flour leaking slightly, they have been very apologetic & refunded for the product promptly. They sell both Waitrose & Ocado own brand products, and despite presumptions, are competitively priced. I've also had very good offers from them in the past-on my last shop the Waitrose whole chickens said online they were half price at around £2.40 each, when they came I had only been charged £1.23 per chicken with a long expiry, absolute bargain!
Tesco I found good for substitutions-I had ordered a pack of 50p frozen chicken livers, which they did not have, and they substituted for a £3-4 bag of frozen chicken breasts, but only charged me the 50p.
I'd suggest you give the ones you want to a go, they often have good offers for new customers-Ocado often has deals on groupon or similar websites, I've seen some for £30 which includes £25 voucher for food & a free delivery pass, seemed really good value but as I was already a customer and I think they say 1 account per household I sadly couldnt use it!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -
Tesco delivery saver also gets you free delivery on Tesco Direct items over £10. I know TD is often dear, but if you keep an eye out for sales and offers it can be cheaper.0

Here's a question, are the deals still valid at Asda and Tesco if they substitute something? Example Brand A is buy one get one free, Brand B isn't, you order two of Brand A, they only have Brand B - do you get charged for two lots of Brand B?
If that makes sense?0 -

No they price match it.
So if you ordered Brand A at BOGOF and they subbed for 2 Brand B that isn't on offer, you get charged what you would of paid for for Brand A on BOGOFI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. To expand on a few points made by others, concerning Tesco...
On the face of it, my own experience of Tesco delivery service is poor - I would say at least 2 out of 3 deliveries there is a problem ... mainly caused by substitutions. However, I continue to shop with them for one simple reason - their customer service department don't want you to be unhappy!!!
Their general policy on substitutions is if they don't have the item you want on the shelf you can opt to have a similar product, and they will match the price. It is worth noting here "similar" applies to both the item and the weight, so as in the chicken example above, swapping with the next size up will not always count as a price match (though I have had it happen to me).
With that in mind, it is worth saying the price-match should also be applied to any BOGOF/Meal Deals, but in my experience their system doesn't implement this, so you need to check your receipt.
Now, the reason I still shop with them? All those times the substitution goes wrong!!! If you are unhappy with a substitution, either because it has worked out more expensive / worse value, or because you have "discover after the driver has left that it isn't similar at all" (hint, hint), then get on the phone to Customer Services. My experience is they will bend over backwards to keep you happy, and that comes in the form of refunds. Apologies for the length of the post, but a few examples...
One shop I got back £43 from a £70 shop by spending an hour on the phone going through 4 different issues on one delivery (substituted items were not as good value, and promotional meat offers not sent, with no substitution offered)
Another shop I ordered a small piece of pork, cost £5.50, they sent a piece 2.5 times as big, and charged me the full price £13.50 as it wasn't "similar", just what was available. As it wasn't a substitution, it wasn't highlighted, so I accepted on good faith... explained to customer service "that it was all going to get wasted, as I only needed a small piece" and they refunded back £8.50, told me to use what I could and bin the rest... (lol - just made twice as much pulled pork as I had intended to do!!)
Final example, and a good lesson to learn... I ordered some fillet beef from the counter - price £13. The meat they sent was probably fillet steak, but looked ropey to say the least. Irung CS and asked them to arrange a swap, but they couldn't get through to the store... end result? Refunded the fillet, and told to do what i could with it
I would guess I have had approximately 20% of my total spend back from CS, (you also get special discount codes, available only to delivered orders) so well worth putting up with a bit of aggravation IMO0 -

I found this not to be the case after ordering from Asda; one item was substituted and it had been part of an offer. I was charged full price and not the offer price. This was an order which happened about a month ago.0 -
Do any of you guys take into consideration clubcards when making your decision? Ie. Asda doesn't have a points-based scheme, and Sainsburys has the biggest one, etc...
I'm currently trying to decide between Sainsburys, Asda and Morrisons for online shopping. I somehow feel that Asda would be cheaper, but I guess that's only if I buy their own branded goods?0 -
I am an Ocado fan and have used them for years.
Their website is first class and includes customers reviews which is helpful.
One hour delivery slots.
Very very rarely have out of stock items or substitutions.
Excellent customer service.
But most importantly, they have dedicated automated warehouses, which means someone does not trail around a shop picking the items off shelves ( which may or may not be available) Which means that your groceries do not 'hang around' in shopping trolleys waiting to be processed.
I agree Ocado is more expensive but they do price match with Tesco for core items.0
