Waxed upper lip now skin peeling!

OMG what's happened.

I've beenon steroids for a coupke of months and they've made me really hairy:o. I immaced my upper lip a few weeks ago but DH said it made me really bristly :o:o:o, so I got some waxing strips.
Ouch!

But anyway, my top lip has gone really dry and peeling since I did it. I put some of my daughter's eczema cream on it, but it's still quite bad. Has this happened to anyone else?

I do mine myself all the time and have never had this problem, I'd try gently exfoliating maybe with a damp flannel or towel rather than with a cream, so you can take the excess skin off, and keep it will moisturised - just with your normal moisturiser.

Let me know how u get on in case I can be of any more help

I get this sometimes when I wax - my upper lip goes all sore and flaky and it seems to make me more prone to coldsores ... I've found using the oily wipes you get with the wax strips seems to help a lot, and waxing before bed so that I'm not exposing my face to cold/heat. Putting a gentle moisturiser on once the redness has calmed down seems to help too.

It could be the steriods causing you problems though, as they can cause thinning of the skin (although maybe you've not been on them long enough for that).

Thanks for the replies. I wasn't aware that steroids thinned the skin so that's probably not helped.

I've been take off them now, and have 2 more weeks on cyclosporin and then can cme off that too:D

I'm on 150mg of azathioprine for the foreseeable future which seem to be doing its job well enough.

I am hoping tha the hair wil start to lesen now I'm off the steroids though.

Also when you wax you really shouldnt go in the sun for the next 24 hours - dont know if this could have contributed?

AnnieH, ive had the same problem - long course of steroids and extra hair growth in various places!!!

I have also started waxing my upper lip - some of the hair did go once i stopped taking the steroids, but not all, and i find i still get a sore bit on one side (prob because of the thinning ofd the skin, i wasnt aware of that either!) so i make sure i moisturise a lot before using the strips, and that has helped a little.
