My choice would always have to consider the quality of the company installing them , they are not all the same by some margin apparently . We have paid over the odds for a well established company who are also very large electrical company to install ours , peace of mind and them being local too also influenced our decision .

    Quote 1: 16 panels of Canadian solar mono black 250W generating 3737 kwH/annum - £5450 incl. VAT

    Quote 2: 16 panels of Sharp Poly (ND-R250A5) 250W generating 3737kwH/annum - £4750 incl. VAT
I've highlighted the difference between the panels for you, which do you think is the better value for money?

Edit, quote 1 will take just over a year MORE to pay off

Just doing a bit of digging and i have to question the pricing of installer 3!
Take a look here and check out the 2 panels they're quoting on
You'll notice that there's only £11 difference retail price, 16 x £11 is only £176 yet the installer has a difference of £700.
Why not ask the installer why there's such a difference and maybe point out your findings and try to get the canadians down £500.

You observations are spot on Tunnel. I asked the same question to the installer, during his survey. His response was, 'These panels were bought in bulk from Sharp, when the company closed it manufacturing operations at Wrexham'.

PS: I'm still wrestling over the decision of buying mono or poly panels. Googling on the internet (http://www.c-changes.com/types-of-solar-panel) has only worsened the predicament :o:eek:

cool_techie let us know what you go for as we are very near to you.

We had a quote of £13000 then came back with a bargain £8000 total chancer! I am glad we still have not made up our minds as it looks as if there is money to be saved.

1,B***ocks through and through, look on that site I linked to, there's plenty of choice for panels...hell, you don't have to pay a premium for higher wattage panels, look at the benQ's...285Wp panels at £149 each, 14 of those are only £200 more than the Sharps which is still cheaper than the Canadians
2, Why, the difference(if any) is minimal, trust me ...you won't know the difference, I have both, poly and mono and they basically work the same

Real pleased you put your quotes on here, really shows the rip off merchants that are out there, does seem that the double glazing window salesmen have moved on(to solar)

Sorry for not providing further updates on this.

I have been talking to supplier 3 and got them to re-quote a better price for Mono panels whilst mentioning that I was ok for silver frames considering the installation will be at the back of my house.

The 2 new quotes they have come back with are:

    Quote 3 - 14 panels of Trina mono 270w (3.78kw system) generating 3643kwH/annum– £4950 incl. VAT

    Quote 4 - 16 panels of Shinetime mono 250w, generating 3737kwH/annum – £5250 incl. VAT

The inverters, monitoring system and iBoost remain the same.
    =============
    Their previous quotes were:
    Quote 1: 16 panels of Canadian solar mono black 250W generating 3737 kwH/annum - £5450 incl. VAT

    Quote 2: 16 panels of Sharp Poly (ND-R250A5) 250W generating 3737kwH/annum - £4750 incl. VAT

Considering that, I would prefer a 4kW system, I have never heard of 'Shinetime' panels (they are a chinese company) and based on your advice regarding Poly vs Mono, my options seem to be to go with the poly panel.

I will check with them though, as to if they can provide me a Trina 250w panel, since logically that should be better value than a 270w panel and will also meet my 4kW system requirements. If not, poly is the way to go.

    Sounds logical?

    Thanks & Regards,
    CT

    Hi CT,

As before I am no expert on panels but the advice on here seems to be that there is little difference between the poly and mono panels (and indeed there are advantages and disadvantages for both as you have discovered with your research).

The price for the poly is good and will give you a great return on your investment so I would suggest they are your best option.
