struggling to find a solution...

I hoping someone can come up with an ingenious idea of how to help me?! (I'm not holding my breath though- I'm utterly stumped!)I also apologise in advance for the long post!

Briefly put, my current situation is I live with my partner and our daughter and my step daughter in a bungalow which belongs to my partners aunt (who lives abroad). We are very lucky as the property belongs to family so it is cheap. However, I am nowhere near my family, friends or work and have to commute quite some way to see them and get to work. I don't drive so use public transport (which I don't mind). The property is falling apart, I mean ACTUALLY FALLING APART, slowly but surely. I have also been recently diagnosed with depression, heightened anxiety disorder and mild OCD tendencies, which my doctor and the mental health specialist say is largely down to my current isolated state.
So anyway, I am desperate to move back to my home town. Move out of the horrible town I'm in (its nasty!) and be near my mum and friends and work again. It would totally better my mental state and I would be far happier.
The problem being we cant afford to move out. I have checked out housing benefit etc and we don't qualify. If we just had an extra couple of hundred pounds a month it would solve the issue, and the only way of doing that is to get rid of our credit cards, but I don't have the £5000 to cover mine or my partners joint debt. Any quick ways to make £5000?!? Haha!
I've tried applying for a consolidation loan but was rejected straight away.
I am getting to a point now where my depression is getting much worse (yes I have been to the doctor) but I cant see a solution to the main problem that is causing it. I'm trying to be proactive, but I am utterly stuck now.

Also there is a possibility of an absolutely perfect property which is 30 seconds away from my mum, this may become available in the summer so I am desperate to find a solution so we can afford it.

Any help or suggestions greatly received!!

  • Nope no ways to quickly get %k unless you have assets to sell. You need to probably just adjust your time frame. Instead of looking at doing it in 2-3 months is perhaps a year a more realistic target.

You should stop thinking about consolidation loans and the like. There isn't a quick fix to your debt problem, you need to build your future on solid foundations of being debt free and living within your means. Given that you live somewhere virtually rent free then you have greater problems than just your 5K debt, Paying a market rent on a house will put much more strain on your finances.

Try posting an SOA (statement of affairs) on here which lists ALL of your income and outgoings and the good people on here will be able to tell you how best to solve your problem.

    Hi Alice
Sorry to hear about your situation. I can imagine that living in a property that isn't fit for purpose must be very depressing.
Are you totally sure you are receiving every benefit you should be?
Is there any chance at all that your family could help you with a loan to move? Appreciate not all families have the resources to do so but if they can help it would give you a lifeline. Worth an ask.
Hope you get more advice here today as well.

  • There's no quick fix I'm afraid Alice. You need to look at your finances and try and reduce to pay off the debt. It may seam like a impossible task but many have done it on the forums. Having depression will make it seam harder but it can be done. Set yourself goals with realistic time scale. End goal being moving closer to your mum. Maybe also look at cheaper houses near your mum if your desperate to move. It may not be ideal but would allow to be in a support network, once things ease up a little then you can look at a better home.

Good luck, there's always a way it's just not always easy xx
