Council Tax debt

Hi,
I'm currently in arrears with my council tax and I received an enforcement notice today. The debt is £129.76, plus the £75 compliance fee and £235 enforcement notice, totalling £439.76.
I've been advised that if I don't call the enforcement agent within 24 hours they'll visit my address to begin removing goods. I just want to know what my rights are and whether it's possible to avoid giving these parasites any money. I'm fully willing to settle the council tax debt as I recently got back into work after a long period of unemployment, but I just can't abide these bailiffs profiting from human misery.
What can I do?
Thanks,
Jay

What can you do.... pay up, be grateful you have found a job and stop moaning.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You can pay it and that will stop the enforcement notice. Why did you not contact them before and you may then have been able to avoid the extra costs going on? Council tax is one of the worst bills to ignore as the consequences of not paying it are so severe. If in the future you lose your job and are unable to pay it contact them to avoid them going to court as this makes the costs increase significantly as you have found.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Hi
Work out how much you can afford to pay towards this per month.
Remember this is a priority debt, so other things may have to drift.
Put that figure to the bailiffs and post again if it's not accepted - new thread if you like.
The threat to visit and remove goods is just an attempt to concentrate your mind on this - they have no right to force entry and don't actually want your goods.
Considering the £129 figure probably included £60 court costs, there may be a lesson in there somewhere, and that may be why the other posts seem a bit harsh.0
