Hi All
Does it follow that if Standard Life report a sharp rise in operating profits then there will be a corresponding sharp rise in their endowment policy payouts?! Or at least an improvement!
I doubt it, but I can have my dreams can't I?

And noticed this announcement from them;

Feb 2008, 20year lifetime tracker with "Sproggit and Sylvester"... 0.14% + base for 2 years, then 0.99% + base for life of mortgage...base was 5.5% in 2008...but not for long. Credit to my mortgage broker

No. The two things are totally unrelated.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Well, I wouldn't say the two are totally unrelated but they do depend on a different set of factors. A common factor for example would be if you had a unit-linked endowment and SL make some of their money from fund-based charges. If the stockmarket does well, the endowment's value rises and the charges paid to SL also increase.
But sure, if SL are making their money from selling lots of profitable new business or cutting costs then that won't translate into a better return on the assets in which your endowment invests. The company's assets and the policyholders' assets are two separate things. (Some blurring of this in the case of a with profits policy).0 -

That would depend on the investment that the fund holds in SL shares. While profits rose how did the share price react.0
