Just officially joined after reading this post. Like the op I struggled on for some months after a change in my circumstances. I was spending as little as possible and using up my small savings to pay my credit card bills. I knew I couldn't go on long term but was terrified of contacting a debt management agency. I shouldn't have been! I was convinced they'd want a budget that would leave me struggling to buy even small treats for my kids. Instead they encouraged me to budget more than I expected on food, clothes, leisure, even Christmas savings! Outcome was my monthly payments were reduced and I had over 100 pound a week extra in my pocket. And they were really supportive too. Didn't make me feel ashamed or embarrassed. My creditors have written to me accepting the offered payments so I'm hoping no phone calls or letters, just paying stepchange by direct debit each month. It'll take a while to clear but that's better than struggling every week just to survive. And maybe circumstances will improve in the future. I'd say don't put it off, if you know sooner or later you'll reach a crisis point then set up a dmp sooner rather than later.0

I appreciate the feedback, thank you. I suppose for me though if I can grit my teeth and pay it all without the background threat of CCJ and the like lurking in the background I will. I do have some extra money for the moment that means I can make the payments so it would (in my view) be crazy to do a DMP at this point in time. However I do take everyone's comments on board and I do feel marginally better that (1) it's an option and (2) ive cut uo the credit cards and making positive steps to get things cleared.0
