does this seem reasonable?

Finally managed to get a response from the DCA holding my single biggest debt, a loan for just over 13k. I've sent them a statement of affairs, made an offer of a repayment plan, asking for the payments to be made by standing order or direct debit. In the past I've gotten behind because i've either not been able to, or forgotten to go to the post office/phone to pay bills. The ones I'm paying by standing order i've never defaulted on, because they go before i get my hands on my pay.

So i've stated that the first payment should go on 1st september, and laid out a plan until the debt's paid off, including increasing payments, when I clear other stuff and have spare cash, so there's a clear end in sight, even if it is a couple of years away. The amount I'm offering is affordable and I think reasonable. the only thing I'm worried about is that they will want the first payment before 1st september. this would put me into financial difficulty, as for various reasons august is a very tight month.

Do you think it's reasonable to say first payment on 1st september? they will have received the letter this morning i think, and i have asked for a response in writing, which slows things down a bit, plus the advance notice you need for setting up a standing order, it doesn't seem that unreasonable to me, but i'm just worrying you know?

I am, I have to be honest, a bit confused. Have the DCA agreed to your proposal?
Have you talked to Payplan, or CCCS in regard to setting up a DMP?

i would strongly advice you NOT to pay by DD as you then have little control about what they take. Pay by standing order.

Which debt collecting agency are they, some are much better than others and maybe someone is dealing with them and can put your mind at rest.

Also the last communication they sent you did it have a date they had to have payment by on it?

I have to second this. Do not set upa direct debit as they are then in control of the amount. Standing Orders are the way to go as you can set it up and then it will go out each time and you are in control of it. Theres been a few people on here who have been stung by collectors taking more than they should.

Also I set up my own DMP although I did originally use the CCCS to help me with the Paperwork. I would say that as long as they agree it then it looks fine but make sure you get everything put in writing as they can change there minds like the wind and this would be the only proof you had if it went to court at later date.

    Good luck
