How not to pay

My ex has decided to go self employed to get out of paying.
He says that because he doesn't know what he will earn and he cannot go by last year's wage, he will be assesed at nil.
I called the csa and they told me he will be assesed at £30 till he submits his books.
What can I expect from my ex to enable him to pay as less as possible?

He would be assessed at nil if he could prove he was earning nothing. If he just doesn't have tax returns, he would either be assessed with a DMD (default maintenance decision, which would be £30 for one child), or the case officer could use an average income from the National Statistics Guide. If your case officer says the case will be a nil, make sure they have considered the options.
If the case is assessed as nil, you can ask for a revision (for the case officer to look at the evidence again.) If the case officer has no new evidence, they will 'refuse to review', which is a good thing, because then you can appeal against the decision, and much more evidence can be used, ie, he owns a house, car, foreign holidays etc, all the stuff he could not do if he has no income.
Hope that thats helpful.0
