shaggydoo, it was in Worthing, we bought early 1988 and the market crashed in the autumn. Mainly due, in my opinion, to high mortgage rates, around 15% I think. In a way we were lucky but it certainly knocked us back financially.

I won a 'best and final offers' process last year by bidding way above the competition.

I received a call from estate agents saying I won and that paperwork will be in the post.

Couple of days later the vendor accepted a higher offer and asked me if I wanted to bid higher.

I told them to !!!! off.

    Definitely boomers.

Quite possibly, but I'm not sure why you seem so certain. People can be !!!!! at any age after all.

We nearly bought a mid-terrace in Woking in 2007 but the survey highlighted all sorts of problems including replacing the damp course. We said we'd continue the purchase if the vendor fixed it - he agreed but dragged his feet for months so we pulled out and found a much nicer place very quickly. I don't think that property ever did sell and I suspect the grumpy bar steward didn't actually want to move.
