Maybe consider a job in something financial such as insurance or accounting. Might be more lucrative than tutoring in the early stages. Or maybe they can be combined.

I've been tutoring for a few years (Mainly maths, with some physics nad chemistry - levels from National 4 to Advanced Higher (Scotland) plus one A level student last year (I live near the border with England!). There is plenty of demand, and I don't advertise, just get pupils from word of mouth. However, I can only do about 3 hours each day, after school, and less if I want to do anything else. Also, the work is very seasonal - very heavy during exam season - the kids have just had prelims, so I am expecting an upsurge in interest, though I have very few slots left - but nothing in the summer. I charge £20/hour, which feels about right, annual income is about £6k so not huge. I have a part-time daytime job as well so really the tutoring is a boost to this.

I enjoy doing it, you can focus on the teaching as there is no admin (concerned with the lessons - obviously you have to keep financial records and a diary), and I feel I am really making a difference. Certainly the exam results the children have achieved suggest that I'm doinga good job!

It certainly wouldn't replace a full-time teaching salary though.
